Why do I need to ensure work practices and procedures are designed specifically for young people in the workplace?
New research shows young people's brains are still developing until well into their 20's and this, combined with inexperience, can impact on workplace safety. Decision making, risk taking, communication and even fatigue are affected by a still maturing brain. In NSW in 2003, nine young workers aged 15 to 24 years died due to injuries in the workplace and a further 7,026 were compensated for work-related injuries.
