Having trouble with OHS terminology?

SWMS (Safe Work Method Statements) - A comprehensive step by step work procedure and document, essential in the Building & Construction Industry. These should be developed in consultation with affected staff.

ITP (inspection and test plans) – A document that records all inspections and testing requirements relevant to a specific work process or equipment.

MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) - is a document containing important information about a hazardous chemical (which may be hazardous substance and/or dangerous goods).

National Harmonisation - Currently all states and territories are responsible for making and enforcing their own work health and safety laws. Although these draw on a similar approach for regulating workplaces, there are some differences in the application and detail of the laws. The Australian Government has identified work health and safety as a priority area for reform. One of the key elements of the reform agenda is harmonisation – moving towards one set of work health and safety laws.

Manual Handling – Is any activity that involves lifting, lowering, carrying, pushing, pulling, holding or restraining. It may also include stretching and bending, sustained and awkward postures and repetitive movements.

GTSS can assist you in navigating your way around all aspects of Occupational Health and Safety, from the development Management Plans, SWMS, Risk assessments and any other documentation your business may require.
